The Fishing on the Barbara Anne
The Barbara Anne is docked at Captains marina in Staten Island, only minutes from some of the finest spring striper fishing that the waters of the Raritan Bay and Upper and Lower NY harbor have to offer.
The Raritan Bay and NY Harbor is an alleyway to the 2nd largest striped bass spawning population in the world. It is a nursery area for juvenile fish, a staging area for large mature fish for months prior to the spawn in may and the place they return to in the fall. Early season fishing consists of fishing with soft baits such as clam and as the waters warm, chunking and livening become the preferred method. As a result, most fishing will be done on an anchored boat and when the occasion calls for it, drifting live baits.
In addition to the fine bass fishing, The Barbara Anne is a stone throw away from the fertile waters of the Ambrose Channel. This channel is home to many species of bottom fish. It is a host to many trophy sized fluke and has given up its share of large striped bass.
As the season progresses and fall descends upon us, the Barbara Anne switches modes and begins to sail daily for Blackfish The waters of the NY bight are home to some of the most intense and challenging blackfishing to be had. We will target Blackfish for as long as the weather permits and the fish are biting.
